Tips for Witnessing

Here are a few tips for witnessing or
sharing your faith
(if that sounds less intimidating).

Be friendly
This may seem very obvious, but some people are not very friendly or approachable when they share the gospel. Make sure they realize that you don't want anything from them, you are not trying to sell them anything, recruit them for your church, or asking for money or anything else for that matter.

Resist the urge to argue
Its very easy to start arguing your point of view, but arguing doesn't get you anywhere. It only makes the person that much more adamant that their position is right.

Show them they have sinned
Why would anyone search out a savior if they don't think they need rescuing. Its important to show them that they have sinned against God and because he is a just and good God he can't just overlook the things they have done. In a court room if the judge is just and does what is right he can't look the other way if you rob a bank. Since God is perfect and their is only good in Him, any sin is still sin. Pointing out the ten commandments is a good way to show that they are in need of a savior. Way of the Master is a good resource website for this kind of teaching.

Don't seem morally superior
Steer clear of portraying yourself as better than they are. Be sure that you point out that everyone has fallen short, including yourself. You can even bring up some of the ways you have fallen short to God's law.

Share the good news of Jesus
Share how God sent Jesus to pay for our sins so that we would be forgiven and made right with God.

Ask if they have a Bible and tell them to read it daily
If they seem open to what you have to said, see if they have a bible. If they don't, encourage them to get one or offer to give them one if they would like. (Talk to your pastor about getting Bibles for distribution). And then encourage them to read it daily and follow what it says. Possibly share a place to start like the book of John or Romans.
(If they are very open and seem ready to receive the gift of salvation, share with them how they can commit there lives to Jesus when they go home and how to pray for salvation.)

You only have to plant the seed
Your only responsibility is to tell them the good news about the gospel and plant the seed. God through the Holy Spirit will do the rest.

I hope these tips for witnessing will help you share your faith.
